HOW TO MEASURE A DOOR HANDLE

HOW TO MEASURE A DOOR HANDLE

STEP 1 : IDENTIFY THE PHYSICAL PLACEMENT OF THE SCREWS

The first step is to identify the physical placement of the screws; does the top screw sit above or below the handle? On the left, the handle is screw above; on the right, screw below.

STEP 2 : MEASURE YOUR HANDLE

There are three main measurements which will then dictate the choice of door handles that you have.

A: Handle centre (spindle centre) to barrel centre (key hole centre): also known as the PZ.

B: Top screw centre to bottom screw centre

C: Overall length of the backplate (whilst not crucial, ensuring this is the same or greater than your current handle means that any screw holes or marks will be covered.

Other measurements that may be listed include:

  • D: Spindle to top fixing
  • E: Spindle to bottom fixing
  • F: Backplate width

These measurements are not crucial in deciding which is the correct door handle for your needs; but it will give you a comprehensive comparison.
